»Just to slowly learn that your silence says
in exactly one month the tenth anniversary of my membership here on deviantART will happen. I will be on travel soon, including this very day, which requires to write in advance.
First of all, I’d like to say I wouldn’t call it photography what I did back then. But of course, I had a few different cameras and did something with them. Photography got more important from trip to trip and if I had to decide the real beginning of my photography – it had to be 2010 with the first full frame camera. Since then I’ve learned a lot, somehow developed my own style and found out what’s really important for me. I am seldom satisfied with my results and sometimes still catch myself doing the same old slips but I guess that’s pretty normal. Most likely dissatisfaction drives art forward.
But life is not just about photography and I think this anniversary is also a good possibility to reflect on my life. Ten years ago I still went to school, eventually I graduated, began to study and worked about two years in full time. In 2015 I quit my job, changed my place of residence to Bavaria and started my master studies. A new chapter began, my third chapter to be exact. Apart from those facts I used to travel from time to time, had just a few but always good friends and in principle not a bad life. Sometimes I tend to think too much but I’ve never stopped finding beauty in whatever it is. Of course, there have been a few women as well but someday either you realize it has never become serious for good reason or you have to let go anyway.
I think it’s pretty important to remember that, to quote Joseph Conrad here, »We live, as we dream – alone« and everything will come to an end sooner or later. Which makes time to moments. And those moments, and the present so important to us. The meaning of what you own should never be lost from the eyes. There’s no way back in life.
But enough of that. I’m very glad that I’ve found something I always could have trusted in and relied on. And what satisfies me so much: It was photography, and it was traveling in solitude in nature. Trying to see and capture nature in its absolutely best. And it still is. Unfortunately, the human being tends to inconsistency, find a constant you always can rely on.
If I had to take a guess about the future – well, I’m pretty sure it all stays the same.
I wish you all the best! And thank you so much for your support through all this time!
I was born in 1991 in a small town in Southern Germany, called Künzelsau. I graduated from university as an engineer in 2013, began to work full time and started to intensivy my traveling. In autumn 2015 I went back to university to graduate in Master of Science which currently has reduced the share of photography in my life. I enjoy traveling in solitude a lot, find pleasure in books, movies and especially music and spend a lot of time outdoors.
My favorite quote is by Joseph Conrad, a writer of the early 20th century:
„It‘s impossible to share the vivid sensation of a certain time in life. We live, as we dream - alone.“
