The Heavens and the Earth by SvenMueller The Heavens and the Earth by SvenMueller
Left 'Mesa Arch' (UT) two days before, drove 17 to 18 hours through several states - most probably the most marvelous drive of my life - arrived the rim with a luck (roads were full of snow), waited the following day and the so cold night and then, finally, walked a while through frozen snow at 4 am in direction of this spot. Nothing but me all alone in that cold winter night with the starry sky above. And then ... this amazing sunrise happened. I guess a farewell gift after a three-month trip. I remember I had to talk out loud to share my emotion on my way back to the parking lot that morning. ;D

By the way, image is a crop of a bigger panorama.

Proof, once again, that many of the best photos are taken at sunrise or sunset.

Which extinct volcano is this?

Hope you had someone to talk to on the way down. My grandfather used to say of a guy who talked to himself: "At least he's talking to an honest man..."

Great little sunburst through those purplish clouds.

Makes me wish, if I could go there, that I could bring along an ulna-light and do some daredevil flying over that lake. Even capturing a drone flight would be a hoot. Would love to visit that island. Maybe Count Blofeld could invite us invite for a tour of his volcanic secret lair...

This reminds me of Crater Lake Oregon. Even if it is or isn't, this is the most gorgeous shot. Beautiful work.

i found your piece through my Twitter feed of DeviantART, and it gravited me toward this picture, and fact that i am learning or touched briefly on what a crater lake is and how it is formed because we are studying about the different kinds of volcanoes in my geology class.

I've noticed that you use more RAWs than 1/3rd stop brackets would normally allow; do find using extra photos increases dynamic range further?
These photos of yours are absolutely beautiful and technically perfect - I'm trying to learn all I can from them!

Most of the time I use 1 or 2 stop brackets. As a rule: As many different exposures as neccessary are to have details in lights and in darks as well.
